Firstly, let me just tell you how strongly I feel about what I’m about to share with you! I believe in it SO MUCH that I created a free checklist that you can download below that will walk you through the EXACT steps that I take to get booked solid every year with my ideal wedding clients. It took years for me to figure out the steps that it takes to foster great relationships with vendors and to really understand how to find the clients that were the best fit for my business. But guess what, you don’t have to spend years figuring it out! Below are 4 tips that will help you get booked with those dream clients!
1.) Second Shoot Weddings ~
This was exactly how I started in photography. I second shot…A LOT! If you don’t happen to know someone in the industry that you can shoot for, join some FB photography groups and start putting your name out there! Post in each of the groups letting the members know that you’re available and wanting to learn the industry. You’ll be very surprised at how many people will be receptive and thankful that you’re willing and able to help!
2.) Attend Bridal Shows ~
Now, before you go spending thousands of dollars on bridal shows that have 1,000,000 vendors in large convention centers, read the next sentence first! FIND SMALL BRIDAL SHOWS TO ATTEND! Reach out to your local venues to see if they are hosting bridal shows during the off season and what the charge is to attend. Typically the costs are low or sometimes even FREE! The smaller shows are a great way to meet and engage with people on a slower paced, one on one level. It’s also a GREAT way to meet other vendors that could be a potential referral source for you. Bring lots of cards and show your best work when you attend. This is a perfect opportunity to set a good impression with potential clients and fellow wedding vendors.
3.) Join a Networking Group ~
One of the biggest ways that I was able to propel my business quickly was through a local networking group. We met every Thursday for the purpose of referring each other. There were quite a few wedding professionals in my group that I was able to send business to and vice versa. We built lasting friendships on top of our business relationships which was an added bonus. I recommend attending a BNI meeting in your local area and also checking out your local Chamber of Commerce. You can find local BNI chapters by going to this site: www.bni.com
4.) Build Relationships with Vendors ~
This is arguably the MOST important tip! Build trusting and long lasting relationships with your vendors if you want solid referrals! If you don’t happen to know anyone in the wedding industry, do some research to find local vendors in your area. Call them and ask to set up a time to meet! But most importantly, when you meet with them, don’t ask what they can do for you, ask what you can do for THEM! Become a resource for them, prove yourself, and they will start referring you again and again!
